Lady Starlight was a performer Gaga had a relationship with during this time. Vince Herbert signed Gaga to Streamline Records in 2007, an imprint of Interscope Records. Gaga signed a music publishing agreement with Sony/ATV after she had been an apprentice writer at Famous Music Publishing. She was then commissioned to write songs in support of Britney Spears, labelmates New Kids on the Block and Fergie. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. The album she released in 2008 The Fame received only a little media reception. Gaga went on tour across Europe and the US to promote her debut album. However, it was not until the 2009 smash "Just Dance" that a lot of attention was given to her music. Gaga suffered from a labral tear on her right leg. She was secretly nursing for several weeks to ensure she could continue the tour. She was unable to walk after a show in Toronto and was suffering from severe discomfort. The tour was stopped.
